What do Malaysia people eatMalaysian cuisine is a mixture derived from both local and external influences, with major influences from the cuisine of Southern China, Southern India, and Thailand. Much of this is due to Malaysia being a part of the ancient spice route. Often the food in Malaysia is different from the original dishes, having been slightly adapted to fit into Malaysia's multiethnic society. Sometimes food not found in its original culture is assimilated into another, for example Chinese restaurants in Malaysia often serve Malaysian dishes. This means that although much of Malaysian food can be traced back to a certain culture, they have their own identity.

Food is often sold in large markets, with stalls for individual dishes. Within Malaysia, there is a large amount of diversity, with recipes varying from state to state. Malaysian food is heavily based on rice, included in most major meals. Also commonly used are Coconut milk, chilli, and seafood. Locally grown tropical fruit is also common. Beef is uncommon in Malaysian dishes. The most popular dish in Malaysia is Satiny.

The country is separated by the South China Sea into two regions, Peninsular Malaysia and Malaysian Borneo (also known as West and East Malaysia respectively). Malaysia shares land borders with Thailand, Indonesia, and Brunei and has maritime boundaries with Singapore, Vietnam, and the Philippines. The capital city is Kuala Lumpur, while Putrajaya is the seat of the federal government. The population as of 2009 stood at over 28 million.
